Lake Chapala
Before I flew to Mexico, I looked at a map of the Guadalajara region to find Ajijic. I knew it bordered Lake Chapala, so I thought if I could find the lake, I could find Ajijic. I had trouble at first and then it hit me. Lake Chapala was so huge I couldn't see it because I was seeking something puny. It was right in front of my nose: Laguna Chapala, larger than Guadalajara. Here is the lake as seen from Sahni's neighborhood. Sahni mentioned that European settlers brought water lilies with them for their gardens. The lilies escaped into the lake and bacame an invasive addition to the ecosystem. |
